Peer CounselingTo live independently successfully, it is vital to have self-confidence and learn how  to cope with being “out there” in society, as being constantly viewed as “different.”  Our Disability Resource Specialists will assist you with helping to develop Independent Living Skills and support you with personal issues. Learning to cope with life's challenges is vital to live independently successfully.   Typical areas of focus can include: family issues, being a person living with a disability, sexual identification, how to be confident in social and business situations and thrive living in the community.

    About

    As a Disability Resource Specialist, Marcia provides information and referrals, individual Independent Living skill development guidance, peer counseling support and self and community advocacy. As an Options Counselor, Marcia can guide Consumers who are in nursing homes and want to move back into the community or Consumers who are at risk of Nursing Home placement, explore their options and identify services and supports to be successful. Marcia is developing skills to be part of the Community Access Advocacy Team, local transportation and the Low Income Housing Workshop.

Lauren has a passion for helping others and has many years of experience in the education and human services fields. Prior to this, Lauren spent the last 10+ years specifically in the special education field in the public school systems.

    Alex provides independent living services to individuals living with disabilities that include information and referral, Individual and Systemic Advocacy skill development, Peer Counseling, Service Coordination in Skills Training. He also provides other comprehensive services such as Options Counseling, outreach, and short and long-term planning.  Alex has over 12 years of experience in Human Services and related fields.

    Pre-Employment Transition Service Program Coordinator

    About

    Erykah is the Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) coordinator, providing five core services to students ages 14-22 who have a documented disability and are enrolled in either high school or in a post-secondary education program. These five core services include Job exploration counseling, self-advocacy and peer counseling, workplace readiness training, work-based learning experiences, and counseling on post-secondary education and training.  Erykah also provides support and resources to individuals with a disability and/or disabilities who may be seeking individual, independent living services. Erykah provides both long-term and short-term services such as IL Services and Options Counseling. These services include information and referral, Individual and Systemic Advocacy, Skill Development, Peer Counseling, and Service Coordination in Skills Training. She also utilizes her time as a Disability Resource Specialist to spread awareness through both Community Outreach and Community Education. Erykah has more than ten years of experience in Special Education and more than three years of experience in the Social Work field.

    As a Disability Resource Specialist, Erica provides services for individuals with disabilities that include: information and referral, skills development, service coordination, options counseling, advocacy, and peer support. She has professional experience providing therapy directly to children with developmental disabilities in addition to several years of volunteer work at a youth center designed to serve underprivileged and underserved youth. As a person with disabilities and a graduate student, Erica has specialized knowledge regarding medical and legal resources, and is excited to help people as they navigate all areas of independent living.

Domingas has 4+ years volunteering with people with disabilities and is passionate about making a positive impact in everyone's life she comes across.
